Police revive 24-hour S'kan-KK checkpoint (HarianEkspress)
Sandakan: Police have reintroduced the 24-hour checkpoint at Km 51 of Jalan Sandakan-
Kota Kinabalu after a four-year lapse to curb cross-border crime.Sandakan Police Chief,
ACP Rowell Marong, said Monday the checkpoint would help thepolice better handle
the entry/exit of illegal immigrants, smugglers, drug traffickers and criminals.
"We found that the removal of the checkpoint had made it easier for criminals to flee from
this district," he said.
Rowell said the checkpoint would be manned by police personnel from the Sandakan district police
headquarters and Kinabatangan and Beluran police stations as well
as the General Operations Force.
"We want the people to feel safe with the police scrutiny of people and
goods entering the district," he said.
